10 TIME MANAGEMENT TIPS
Producer or consumer; the truth is we all are consumers of time! We all have 24 hours and if one would manage it well, there comes a need to know a couple of things.
Here are 10 tips on time management. This would further help to reach your goals within the stipulated time.
- Know that your time can actually be managed;
It is important to know that it is possible to meet your deadlines, satisfy those customers, and be present for your meetings; all on time. Your mindset on time comes to play in time management.
- Have a plan;
This may even sound like a cliche and did I just hear you say ‘yeah, I have a plan’? Beyond having it up there in your head, writing plans down is actually a conscious effort which makes you consciously put these plans into action. Having a plan you can stick to ensures you do all you are meant to do within the limited time you have. Before you go to bed, plan everything you should do the next day. That sure works.
- Batch your plans;
Do you want to do a research and write a letter, yet there is still a presentation you need to prepare for; these things fall within the same category so it is easier when these tasks are taken together to be done within the same space of time. If you need to go down to the store, see a sick friend or do anything else that requires you to be on the road, do them all within the same sphere of time.
- Set a time limit for each plan;
Caution comes to play when there is an awareness of something you should be doing at a particular time. It is not just enough to set plans; to make your plans effective, set time limits!
- Bargain when you can’t meet up with the time set;
Just as people bargain in money matters, it is okay to bargain when you know you can’t meet up with the particular target time. If the aim is to ensure you can be trusted with time, bargain when you can’t meet up. Accept only the tasks you are sure you can finish within the target time.
- Take away from distractions;
Since you have a plan, anything that doesn’t help affect your plans positively is clearly a distraction. Take it away!
- Audit your time;
Just like money is audited. Every time spent should be accounted for too. This is helpful to know where your time is going, if it is worth that much time and how you can manage it better.
- Leave no regrets;
If you already think you will feel as though you have wasted time after doing something, don’t do it at all in the first place. Is it a meeting that won’t be helpful in any way? Simply opt-out!
- Avoid time wasters;
It is no doubt that certain people and things are time wasters. Avoid them while trying to achieve your goals.
- Make sure you rest/sleep;
You tend to become counter-productive when you keep working and you don’t rest at all. Be sure to rest and refuel.
Manage your time and you’ll have managed your entire life!
